House move

They say, that one house move is equal to one house fire. And it is not far from reality - amount of the efforts and nerves, which are spent along the way, are enormous.

Especially if you are making first move out of known environment, circle of the family and close friends, from familiar culture. And you wonder what awaits for you in the new place.

What is most difficult, but the most important while relocating, in my view? Every time you move, make it as if it is a permanent one. Never think of temporary status and don't wait till better times come. Establish connections in the new place, learn local language, try culinary specialties, study specific national customs and habits, meet new neighbours. Travel and research the new country.

Make yourself feeling like at home, wherever you go. Everything will be alright, eventually😉.

Система образования: куда мы катимся

"Каждый раз проходя мимо школы или тюрьмы, я жалею тех, кто внутри."

Сейчас общество находится на перепутье. Мы заново изобретаем многое - кроме системы образования, которая должна поддерживать и направлять всё остальное.

Нынешняя система образования была изобретена в эпоху индустриализации, когда служащим нужно было "знать своё место", а работодателям нужны были одинаково обученные и взаимозаменяемые "детали" процесса. И спустя десятки лет после этой эпохи мы продолжаем учить детей прилежанию, дисциплине и послушанию, ожидая что во взрослой жизни они будут "think out of the box". Развивающийся сейчас кризис и внезапный переход на удалённое обучение ещё больше показал всю замшелость данной системы.

Вырасти счастливым молодым человеком становится сложнее, потому что будущие профессиональные роли становятся более туманны и эфемерны. Набора навыков, приобретённых в школе или институте, уже недостаточно для удовлетворительной карьеры.

Каковы могут быть решения? Думаю, всё лежит на поверхности.

Дать каждому ребёнку выразить себя и проявить свою уникальность. Поощрять инициативу, индивидуальность, непокорность. Учить не умению проходить тесты, а умению учиться, находить знания, задавать вопросы.

Школы из безликих и стандартных учреждений должны превратиться в творческие студии. А учителя - в креативных руководителей проектов и наставников для своих учеников.

Education system: where are we going

"Every time I pass by school or prison, I feel sorry for those who are inside".

Society is on the cross-roads now and reinventing many processes and systems. Except for the education system, which is supposed to support and guide all others.

The current education system was invented in the industrial era when all workers had to "know their place" and employers needed standardized learning and replaceable "cogs" of the production process. Dozens of years later we keep teaching our kids discipline, diligence and obedience - and expect them to "think out of the box" when grown-up. Unfolding crisis and sudden move to remote studies mode have shown even more the archaic methods and weakness of the current education system.

To grow up as happy young adult now is an ever difficult task cause future roles and jobs perspectives are becoming less certain. The skills and knowledge children learn at schools and universities are not sufficient to compete for a career.

What could be the solutions? They are obvious, in my view.

Allow each kid to express themselves and reveal their unique personality. Encourage initiative, non-conformity, individuality, insubordination. Instead of the ability to pass tests, teach them the ability to learn, to seek new knowledge, to ask unusual questions.

Schools instead of standard impersonal institutions shall become colourful free-spirited creative studios. Teachers - to become project managers and coaches for their students.
